Protect Our Beaches
The Protect Our Beaches Rack Card
The “Protect Our Beaches” rack card is an informational tool created by Beaches Go Green to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the environmental health and safety of beaches for visitors.
The card is designed to educate and inform people about the beaches ecosystem and the animals that live there. The goal is to empower visitors with knowledge and encourage them to be more mindful and considerate of the beautiful and fragile environment.
The rack card will be distributed to local hotels, restaurants, and businesses that beach-goers frequent, making it easily accessible to those who may be visiting the area.
The overall aim is to create a cleaner, healthier, and safer future for everyone.
Please do not litter
Litter is a major problem for our environment, wildlife, and the appearance of our beaches. Trash attracts more trash, making the issue a vicious cycle. To help stop the problem, it is important that we all do our part. If you see litter, please pick it up. Not only will you be making the area look cleaner, but you will also be reducing the risk of harm to wildlife. Litter is not only ugly, but it can also harm animals by getting tangled in it or ingesting it.
Keep our beaches wild
Our beaches are home to a variety of wildlife and it is important that we protect them. To help keep our beaches wild, it is crucial that we do not touch or feed the animals. Instead, we should observe them from a safe distance. If you see an injured or stranded animal, please report it to the appropriate authorities. Additionally, do not disturb any nests of any kind, as this can cause harm to the animals and their offspring.
Sea turtles are endangered
Sea turtles are an important part of our coastal ecosystem and they are also an endangered species. Sea turtle nesting season runs from May 1st to October 31st and during this time, it is important that we do our best to protect their habitat. Sea turtles need a clean, dark, and flat beach to nest, so it is important that we do not leave litter on the beach and avoid using bright lights at night. The three main species of sea turtles found in our area are Loggerheads, Greens, and Leatherbacks.
Protect our dunes
Dunes are an important first line of defense during storms, and they provide critical habitat for many species of wildlife. To help protect our dunes, it is important to avoid climbing or digging in them. Additionally, picking sea oats, which grow in the dunes, is prohibited as it can harm the dunes and disrupt the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
Your butts are trash
Cigarette butts are the most littered item on the planet, and they have a significant impact on our environment. Butts are made with cellulose acetate, a plastic material that turns into microplastics, and they also leach toxic chemicals into our soil and water. To help reduce the impact of cigarette butts, it is important that they are disposed of properly. Please use the approved or provided receptacles to dispose of your cigarette butts, and help keep our beaches clean and healthy.
